Millard homes are not that old. Why am I having sewer problems?
A lot of Millard housing stock dates from the 1960s through the 1980s, which puts cast iron drain lines at or past the point where interior corrosion starts narrowing the pipe. The outside looks fine, the inside has lost diameter. Scale catches everything that passes.
How do I know if I have cast iron or PVC?
Look at the vertical stack in the basement or utility room. Black or rust-brown metal that rings when tapped is cast iron. White or cream plastic is PVC or ABS. Many Millard homes have a mix, where an older interior run meets a newer line out to the street.
My street had sewer work done. Could that be related?
It can be. Work near a line sometimes disturbs grade or dislodges an already weak joint, and symptoms can show up weeks later rather than immediately. If backups started after nearby construction, say so, because it changes where to look first.
