From Dundee bungalows to west Omaha cul-de-sacs
Omaha is two cities when it comes to plumbing. East of 72nd Street, neighborhoods like Dundee, Benson and Field Club are full of houses from the early 1900s, with big old trees over sewer lines that have been in the ground as long as the houses have. Out west the subdivisions are far newer, and so are the pipes.
We work both sides of town, and the first question is always the same: is it this one drain, or the line behind it? A camera answers that before anyone guesses.
What an Omaha house tends to need
Older lines in midtown and north Omaha
Clay and cast-iron sewer lines wear, crack and let roots in at the joints. A camera inspection shows whether a cleaning will hold or the line needs repair.
Grease and build-up out west
Newer plastic lines rarely crack, but kitchen lines still coat with grease and soap. Snaking opens them; hydro jetting cleans the pipe wall.
Basements everywhere
Most Omaha houses have one, and the floor drain is the lowest point in the house. Water there is often the first sign of a main-line problem.

We called Bill at Affordable Plumbing at 11 pm thinking we would leave a message, but to our surprise he answered the phone. He offered to come immediately, but we settled on the next day. Bill was prompt, informative about our main drain issue, and did an excellent job. Would highly recommend, and use Bill again.

Questions
Good to know
How old is my sewer line likely to be, based on my neighborhood?
Homes in Dundee, Benson, Field Club, and Florence often still run on original clay tile or cast iron laterals, with joints that roots find easily. Postwar areas tend toward cast iron. Anything built from the 1970s onward is usually PVC, which fails far less often but is not immune to crushing or bad slope.
Where does my responsibility for the sewer end in Omaha?
As a rule the property owner owns the lateral from the house to the connection at the public main, and the city handles the main. Confirm the specifics with the city before paying for work near the street, since where the line sits and who owns what can change the conversation entirely.
Why do so many Omaha basements back up in the same storms?
Heavy rain loads the sanitary system in parts of the city, and your basement floor drain is the lowest opening in your house. If backups arrive with the weather rather than with laundry day, the fix is usually about keeping water out rather than clearing a clog.
Are the trees in my parkway causing this?
Often, yes. Mature silver maples, elms, and cottonwoods send roots toward the moisture and nutrients leaking from an old joint, and they find it from a surprising distance. Removing the tree does not remove the roots already inside the pipe, and the crack they entered through is still there.
Can you get to my line if the clean-out is in an alley or under a deck?
Usually. Access shapes how long the job takes more than whether it can be done, and knowing in advance lets us bring the right machine. Tell us what you can see when you call, including whether there is a clean-out at all, and a lot of guesswork disappears.
